In America, the average adult owns $20,000 worth of personal belongings. This may seem far-fetched for a college student, but try taking a personal inventory of their items. When you consider the value of every
individual possession (including furniture, clothing, electronics, jewelry, appliances, dishes etc.), the overall value adds up very quickly. When your child goes away to college, they take with them all of their possessions. Could you or your child afford to replace these possessions out of pocket if a fire or theft occurred? Each school year, college students lose missions of dollars from personal possessions destroyed in fire, flood, vandalism or natural disasters or lost in a theft. That's where renters insurance can come in handy.
